Gasp! My grandmother never said this!

My grandmother, rest her soul, would shudder in her grave if she knew I was about to address this Christmas greeting. There are so many misconceptions when it comes to Christmas traditions. I find it interesting in our man-made celebrations of something holy we don't know really why we do what we do except what traditions have taught us to do.

Somewhere jingling all the way, we assume that those who have gone before us knew what they were doing.  Do we fear crossing the traditional line of annual holidays to discover their original meanings?

Gasp.....Merry Xmas!  Now before you stop reading please...read on for a thorough explanation of what this salutation really means.  I know...I know...I'm really pushing the "Keep Christ in Christmas" protest line now aren't I?

Xmas is often veiwed as offensive and an exclusionary term to remove Christ from Christmas. You see this term used in secular circles and marketing campaigns that imply the creator of the slogan or sign maker was probably in a hurry, didn't know how to spell Christmas correctly or just wanting to abbreviate our beloved sacred holiday.

The truth is, saying Merry "X-mas" doesn't defame the name of Christ. It actually includes Christ in Christmas. You won't find Xmas in the traditional worship songs and carols for sure. I've hardly even seen it advertised this year.  Why, even the greeting card companies have changed their language to print "Season's Greetings." Now isn't that just an all inclusive and confusing way to acknowledge a sacred act of our Divine Being coming to earth to save all of mankind?

"Xmas" is most associated with a focused slant towards materialism, with verbiage that slaps our cultural and religious rituals in the face with disgust. But what does it really mean?

I think you will find this as a fascinating and yet, quite interesting explanation:

First of all, the abbreviation predates by centuries. "It was first used in the mid 1500s with the "X". In the Greek alphabet the letter stands for “chi,” as the first letter in Χριστός. But the real clincher to this Christmas juxtaposition is that Xριστός means “Christ.” X has been an acceptable representation of the word “Christ” for hundreds of years. This device is known as a Christogram. The "mas" in Xmas is the Old English word for “mass.”   In the same vein, the dignified terms Xpian and Xtian have been used in place of the word “Christian.” ~ excerpt from Dictionary.com

Looks like the Greek writers might have just been a little enamored with the flexibility of the letter “X.”

Dear X, you might own Christmas after all.

Unfortunately, the very same letter can represent many negative things such as a movie rating, a medical diagnostic machine showing a break or tumor, and a tool used by the all- powerful Transportation Security Administration experts to examine all things luggage, including the inside and outside of you. X even stands for a infamous entertainment system that attracts all men under and over 12, the Xbox game system.

So you see used in the context of Christmas it was the Greek who really wanted to include Christ in Christmas in a most ingenious way.  Maybe they were trying to send us some secret code to Christmas, bringing the signs and wonders of a child-like faith using letters and symbols.

Like it or not, I still think it's a greeting my grandmother wouldn't say. On this point of keeping Christ in Christmas, I say why put confusion in a word where confusion already exists. At least that is one way to look at it, otherwise to use the X or no X, I'll leave it to the Greeks.  So Xmas can also mean Christmas; but to clarify it's meaning we could say 'Christmas' rather than 'ex-mas'!

Say what you mean and mean what you say!  Merry Christmas!

Are there some greetings you avoid to keep from using as to not offend?

Since we are friends, can I ask a small favor?

Can you do me a favor?  We are still friends right?
It shouldn't take up much of your time. Will you join me in noticing more Christ this Christmas?
I was watching the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade yesterday, a family tradition for years. I noticed the commercials for Black Friday sales were constant.
This is how it goes every Thanksgiving day, the shopping comes to rush us from the dinner table to the din of Christmas. Such is the clamor of the season.  And at our invitation distractions are loud, shiny and jingle oh so merry and bright.
If only we could focus a little more on why we celebrate Christmas in the first place. I'm here to help you do just that. That's where the favor comes in.  Last year writing an Advent devotional was only a dream. Yes, I posted a few Advent related thoughts here. But as the month became busier and busier, I stopped my writing because I couldn't handle one more thing.
We tend to do that don't we?  We tend to crowd Christmas with everything but Christ.
We rush into our traditional holiday "yes" details and never consider choosing "no" details because we might miss out on something. We can't handle the load we put on ourselves this time of year. But how often do we stop and slow down? In our rush to do it all, and be it all, and serve at all, and buy it all...we miss Christ and arrive at the Nativity scene depleted, exhausted and emotionally spent.
Advent brings a time to prepare our hearts, our minds, and our souls for rest. We need to notice Emmanuel more this Christmas than ever before. Would you join me in searching for the Christ child this year? Would you be willing to spend a few minutes rediscovering the awe in the miracle birth of Jesus?  Can we read some worn stories and find them anew? Will you make time to notice Jesus bigger this Christmas?
I have Ebook devotional based on four themes of Advent: Anticipation, Attention, Attitude, and Advance. These weeks help you celebrate the promises of the coming season with the comfort and joy that only Christmas brings.
It would mean a lot to me if you joined me in this. Click on the picture above and you can have your very own copy to read all the way up to Christmas day. Take some time to notice God's preparation in the day by day guide. Christmas is most unconventional, and certainly full of miracles, and definitely leaves me in more awe each year. Cherish Christ this Christmas and see the glow of the manager. Come let us adore Him.

So this is Christmas

The story of the birth of Jesus is just....lovely hope.  Love-filled hope that came.

Simple and pure.

The world waits on for this night.  We wait, we hope.

The Messiah is born, perfect and holy, in humility. Anointed. Our Savior.

The story just begins really...or continues. Isaiah, Micah, and Jeremiah all foretold this day when God's own Son would be born on earth. Many didn't have enough faith to believe.  They wrote truth over 400 years ago before we had Facebook and Twitter.

I love how God involved the lowly to tell his most important news. He trusts us all with the message of Christ.

In the midst of this dark, hopeless, yearning world, Jesus was born, on a most silent night.

All of heaven breathes life into a lifeless world.

 Holy has come.

The Heavens declare God's glory.  Our hearts sing...

Come let us adore Him....

Hope has arrived, and is swaddled in some baby blankets. So beautiful...and Heaven sent.

The Word became Flesh.

Our redemption began in a stable.    A foretaste of eternity with God.

How do we prepare for spending time with the Glorious?

We prepare our hearts continually...we willingly let His love change us. That's why Jesus came, for redemption of all mankind, but also to make us imitators of Holy, those that carry the name of Salvation.

What comes down this Christmas time is God's love — and the way to receive His love doesn't need us to wrap anything up — but to unwrap your heart before Him.

Let the Glorious change you. Take in the Holy, the sweet fragrance of new life.

When we unwrap this kind of love it transforms us. Let it burn like a flame inside our overworked, worn and weary, most weak and feeble hearts.

Let the cares of this day, your life, your over-spent budget exhale and take in the Divine.

Advent – this season prepares us to take in the Holy breathe of Heaven, to dwell in us, to live inside us, to bring a Heavenly love anew, refresh us and it prepares us.

We ready for our finale, our ending with His beginning, His beginning prepares us for our ending.

And....what a glorious greeting we will have. Glimpse the holy at the stable, see pure simple, the breathing Life that prepares your heart room for a glimpse of heaven.

Oh how He loves us so...to send us Jesus...

How can we prepare to receive the infinite in our finite hearts? In our weak frames, the strong shoot of Jesse?

The best gift we could possibly need in the most unlikely place.

Because He loves us so......and because He loved us first...

His Love came to us....wrapped for us, to unwrap our lives

We prepare by letting Christ undo our hearts and give Him our all.

In our undone-ness then we can feel Christmas love come down and hope invade our hearts. In the welling of our hearts and in the wrapping of our souls. In the middle of our preparations, He prepares us with the only thing we need...

His love and redemption...and grace.  Grace binds us for the eternal and bridges us to eternity. And it prepares us to for our end Hope.

My prayer: Lord, thank You for speaking to us through Your Word and Your prophets and strengthening our faith. Thank you for making the first move, thank you for connecting the dots of history through the ages, through the circumstances. Piercing the dark world to connect our sin with your redemption. Thank you for sending hope to the hopeless, the whole forgiveness, the complete wholeness that we all crave. Thank you for sending Jesus. Thank you for your indwelling in us lowly creatures that desperately need your grace. Thank you for your mercy upon us. Thank you for Jesus. Thank you for bringing hope to our world. Thank you for your endless love. Amen.

Merry Happy Christmas as you receive Heaven.

Wise words from the days gone by

Did you know that the birth of Jesus was actually told a long time ago? Believe it there were people that told of the birth of our Savior from the days gone by.

Things haven't changed much over time. People still don't believe in the miracle of a baby, a designated King, coming to earth to be our Savior.

The story seems to be good to be true.

But I believe it.  Because God said so and He keeps His word.

I wonder if that is what the people who heard the vision of the Savior of the world thought too?

"Could it really be true?"

Could this simple story of God caring really be the real deal?

Believe it...it's a bit too crazy for anyone to make this up.  And yes, agreed, it is a strange way to save us humans.

Because God says it's true though, I do believe in the miracle of Christmas.  I believe by faith that Jesus came down from Heaven in the form of a tiny, pure little baby to bring salvation to the world.  I believe in the story, even if it sounds a little whacky.

I mean why would Heaven come near to us, in the middle of our sin, in the middle of our messy lives, and in the middle of our upside down world?  Why would Heaven care to humiliate and put to death one Innocent man as punishment for our wrongs, thus giving us a way to live forever with a Mighty and Holy God?

Why?

Because God keeps His promises, and but more so because He loved us first.

Pure Love came down from Heaven and gifts with an Eternity filled with love, joy and peace.  And the Hope of Heaven is near with this Christmas story.  Hope in it's purest form wrapped up in a tiny breathing baby bundle.

Hope comes down and there some old guys who were faithful to tell the story, and write it down.

Here are ten reasons to believe the story:

1. Jesus will come from the line of Abraham. Prophecy: Genesis 12:3. Fulfilled: Matthew 1:1.

2. Jesus’ mother will be a virgin. Prophecy: Isaiah 7:14. Fulfilled:  Matthew 1:18–23.

3. Jesus will be a descendant of Isaac and Jacob. Prophecy:  Genesis 17:19 and Numbers 24:17. Fulfilled: Matthew 1:2.

4. Jesus will be born in the town Bethlehem. Prophecy: Micah 5:2. Fulfilled: Luke 2:1–7.

5. Jesus will be called out of Egypt. Prophecy: Hosea 11:1. Fulfilled: Matthew 2:13–15.

6. Jesus will be a member of the tribe of Judah. Prophecy: Genesis 49:10. Fulfilled: Luke 3:33.

7. Jesus will enter the temple. This is important because the temple was destroyed in A.D. 70 and was never rebuilt. Prophecy:  Malachi 3:1. Fulfilled: Luke 2:25–27.

8. Jesus will be from the lineage of King David. Prophecy:  Jeremiah 23:5. Fulfilled: Matthew 1:6.

9. Jesus’ birth will be accompanied with great suffering and sorrow. Prophecy: Jeremiah 31:15. Fulfilled: Matthew 2:16.

10. Jesus will live a perfect life, die by crucifixion, resurrect from death, ascend into heaven, and sit at the right hand of God.  Prophecies: Psalm 22:16; Psalm 16:10; Isaiah 53:10–11; Psalm 68:18; Psalm 110:1.  Fulfilled: 1 Peter 2:21–22; Luke 23:33; Acts 2:25–32; Acts 1:9; Hebrews 1:3.

The God who wrote these Scriptures makes good on His promise to us.

He is faithful to his Word.  And He definitely loved us first.

Believe in the miracle of Christmas because these older wise men sought God as they were writing and have left behind a beautiful telling of the Jesus story for us to believe.

These are wise words from those who didn't get to see the promise that we get to celebrate.  Believe in Jesus this Christmas.

Hope's name is Jesus, Jesus is the Hope of this lost, upside down world.

This was written because you are loved.  ~ the Hope specialist.

Oh deck those Advent halls

First of all...thank you to the scholars of Pinterest.  I applaud your creativity and bravery this Christmas season.  I award you the most resourceful and economic idea-generator of all things Christmas this year.  With glad tidings you proclaim your wares, causing me to stare in amazement of how many times you can use a empty toilet paper roll.

I see plenty of those waiting for me around my halls.

Second, I applaud the rest of you for following the Pinterest march to own your decorated halls, and bringing out the best in your yards and corners of your living spaces with those perfect Christmas decorations.  The ones that will make it's mark on your family legacy.  The decorations that you will want to hand down from generation to generation.

The decorations that you will write home about, tell your future kids about, those grand kids, the one true focused decoration that stirs a deep comforting Christmas memory.  The Christmas milestone moment that bookmarks time to signal the Christmas season and tick off these Advent days.

It's not Christmas until we decorate our spaces.  Until we adorn our hallways and mall-ways with the glitters and sounds of Christmas.  We can't have elusive seasonal joy until we unfurl the best gift ever.  It's how we usher in the Christmas celebration into our homes.

Take a look around and see how you have decorated your own halls for this Christmas season.  You probably have pulled out all your favorite pieces, the ones that just say "Let's be jolly, have some holly!"  Or have hung that mistletoe in it's appointed place for just the right seasonal exchange of a Christmas kiss.  (I have never understood Santa's role in this whole kissing thing...UGH!)

I caved to the conformity and pressure of putting up a Christmas tree this year.  It was at the polite request or what I like to call a simple Christmas demand,  issued by my adult daughter (deadline was Dec. 7th and side note, I did indeed meet her deadline).  Putting up a tree reminds her it's Christmas.  It's a season of celebration for her as this month includes her birthday.  It's a tradition within her thinking that sets off an alarm to think about Christmas, to bring in the sounds of celebration, the joys of celebrating.

In putting up the tree I couldn't help but think about how we bring in all these extra decorations to enhance our celebrations but in reality they distract our celebrations.  Isn't it interesting that Christmas is synonymous with the lights, the bows, the ribbons, and the snow?

When we really look at the pretty sights of Christmas, shouldn't we focus on the One, simple and authentic Beauty?  Could our celebrations follow our hearts longing to satisfy our deepest need these Advent days, in taking away any fake beauty, to unwrap the real Beauty of Salvation?

God came to us.  In the first Advent, Jesus set aside glory for humility. We didn’t tidy up our earth or our lives for him before he came. There was no level of decoration that could have been appropriate anyway. This is about His Love plan for us, that was set in motion from the Perfect Garden, before our lives became decorated with all kinds of sin.

A well adorned Christmas tree certainly wasn't at the stable where Mary and Joseph welcomed our Savior.  There was no brilliant lights except for the angels gleaming in worship around them.  The stars beamed, shining heavenly light, in the silence of the night.  No tinsel among the hay, dirt, the mess of a stable.

Why do we bow to the latest craze of Christmas?

I admit I have missed the message of Christmas for many years.

But....with an intentional focus on the reason these advent days are made for, let's pause our decorating.  Let's stop the busyness and blurry days and let our hearts trip over the manger child.

How ever you choose to adorn your hallways, byways, your choruses, your stories, and your family photo albums with memories, remember to pause for the Christ-child.  The awe and wonder of a Holy God coming near and letting His Presence, Peace, and Joy decorate your Christmas Advent days.

My Prayer:  Dear Jesus, forgive us when we try to add to your story of Christmas.  Forgive us in our empty hearts longing that we look to tinsel and shiny things to fill our deep need for your Presence.  Forgive us Lord, when we don't shout your birth from the mountain tops.  Forgive us Lord when we bow to the latest decoration craze or light show.  Forgive us in the ways we are easily distracted.  God make our hearts stop with your message to see the beauty of Christmas.  May we take in your breathe of Heaven during these Advent days.  Make we all make more room for you, Jesus.

Luke 2:6-7  "While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.  She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn."

Silent preparation

There are some of you who are asking some big questions of God right now.

Maybe you have a lot of unanswered prayers like Zechariah and Elizabeth did.  Check out their story in Luke 1.  It's a beautiful telling of God's answer in the middle of their mess.

When we read the wonderful stories of the Bible, especially the pretty story of Christmas we forget that these people are just ordinary people living their lives, regular Janes and Joes doing life, doing the work that God has called them to.

We forget.  Until we take another look at their story behind the veil of words.  That's just a fancy way of saying, reading between the lines of the unwritten part of their hearts, the parts that the Holy Spirit teaches to your spirit.

I would be unprepared if I ignored the words that weren't written.

We pick up the story in the middle of those days where priests had it all together, and took their turn at living holy lives in the the middle of their doubts, fears, and tears.

Yes, I said tears.

What does that have to do with preparing for Christmas?  Well, I don't know about where you are in this preparing season of Advent but today in the middle of these days, God has some undoing to do.

I just had one of the biggest emotional confessions before a dear friend and God that I've had in a while.  I realized something in my tears.

One..that our tears sometimes fill in for the silence of our hearts and no matter what, how many or how long, God understands and catches each and every one.

Two...when God calls you to show up to the calling He has given you, there is some preparing that needs to be undone before He can bring new birth into your doing.

Zechariah and Elizabeth were quite the model couple of strength through all these years of service to God.  On this certain day recorded in Luke 1, Zechariah's ministry was at an all time high.  It was his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to offer sweet incense at the altar, laying before a Holy God the concerns of his people.

Zechariah had prayed for this day.  I would venture to guess that he even dreamed about how this day would go down his own prayer journal.  What an honor to pray for the problems and concerns of the people, and that he would have all the right words flowing from his compassionate heart.  His big break came, at last he was before God, and behind the veil of prayers.

Elizabeth, his strong-supportive-solid-prayer-warrior-rock, was on the sidelines praying too.  With confidence, he enters the secret place of the temple, prepared with just the right gumption in his heart.

I haven't even addressed the unspoken needs relating to Elizabeth's barren state that might have been on the forefront of Zechariah's heart.  Think about this, if you knew you were going to meet God with your most raw and open prayers, knowing by the public approval that your prayers would be heard by a Holy God, be honest, wouldn't you say a little prayer for your deepest need too?

Or is that just me?

Zechariah was unprepared for what was about to happen.  Something holy occurred as the cloud of incense made way for an angel.  The holy host brought the element of surprise and alarm to his mix of utterances.  Zechariah's response was captured in words of "deep emotions."

Is it just me or does the suggestion of deep emotions not evoke the presence of tears?  Face to face with a holy messenger would certainly bring a heart felt wave of emotions, including tears.

Even though Zechariah was a priest, please don't tell me he never cried.  Pastors aren't machines with cold hearts that never cry.  Haven't you ever cried when you were afraid?  Or confused? or bewildered?

Here the man was going into the Silence to pray some of the most heart felt prayers of his life, and before he could get every request out through his simple words, he was face to face with God, the Giver of all words and emotions.

What could have prepared him for that?

"Fear Not!"  "Why do we fear the worst from God, when he loves us completely and always gives us what is best."  ~Liz Curtis Higgs.

And...."why are we so eager to pray away the very life circumstances that teach us the most about who God is?" ~ from my unspoken place.

The angel then proceeds to make a holy delivery of good news, the-once-in-a-life-time-prepare-your-world-to-be-rocked-to-the-core good news.  "Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John." ~ Luke 1:13

Blinking, without words, Zechariah gasps, his very breath is stolen before he could get to his request on the list.  His eyes were brimful of tears by this time, with shock and awe in his heart.  Then the angel goes on to describe all the awesome and life impacting ministry that God would soon birth.

"He will make ready a people prepared for the Lord."  There's that "word" again...prepare....for the Lord's work.

Which brings us back to this ordained time behind the veil.  What is God preparing you to do?  That's the good news of Advent, that God prepares our hearts to receive Him.  Some of you, you need to admit it for the first time, and you know by reading this, that's it's time that you accept Jesus as your Savior.

Let this preparation time in this Christmas season begin with the gift of salvation.  The rest of you...what is God calling you to now?  And how are you preparing your unspoken parts of your heart for more room for the Savior to work during this Christmas season?

And these are the hard life questions that I am also asking myself, those unspoken parts, the exciting parts of where I need God on a daily basis, to undo what has been done to be all that He wants to do, in me and through me.

The season of preparation looks different for each of us.  But might I write a little hope for you?  When you pray for God's wholeness in this season of preparation, give Him room to work His wholeness in this Christmas season.

God want's to do some incredible preparations through your undoing, your broken relationships, your messes, the whatever need in your life that will speak to the unspoken parts of someone else.  God is a God of His words and He holds our hearts.

He is the Hope for the broken world we are in the middle of.

God has heard your prayers, He has not tarried in answering them.  In this time of advent, as we prepare for the celebration of the Savior's birth, may we all gather in our prayers, our hearts, our tears, and our belief in the miracle of Christmas.  In the miracle of the birth of Christ as a tiny baby, who came to earth as a gift of God's grace, to bring a hope and healing to our hearts and our hurts, to our lives.

God promises hope in this time of preparation.  Receive it with graceful silence and awestruck wonder.

Let Heaven and nature sing...

My prayer:  Oh God, helps us see the wonder of your miracle birth, Jesus, in this time of preparation, to bring hope alive in our hearts and hurts, again.  Remind us of the wonderful story of your Words.  And in the silent nights, the lonely hours, the dark times of our problems, God may you meet us here with the hope of Jesus.  Each and every time.  Today.  Tomorrow, and for all eternity. Lord, Jesus come.

Let Heaven and nature sing in our broken and unspoken places.

"We Received the Most Beautiful Thing"

God came near this family in their most desperate time of need.  Thank you for making a difference...

Dear staff and listeners of The House FM, My name is Mellaney. Some of you probably remember my name from a letter I wrote to The House early in December. I wanted to take a moment of your time to thank everyone for your prayers and generous contributions.
At the beginning of October my husband and I had reached a very hard financial situation.  We had never been it a situation like that before. The day I wrote the letter, I watched my husband make phone call after phone call just trying to find some help to keep our family afloat. Time and time again he was told that whom he called could not help us. It was heartbreaking. It was at that moment that I stopped and prayed for guidance. While I was still praying I could hear God inflicting upon me to write the letter. Just writing the letter I felt a rush of relief. It was like I had been floating on a raft out in the middle of the ocean and someone had come to my rescue. I didn’t know what God’s plan was but I knew that he was going to lead me to where we needed to go.
God had implemented our prayers on the hearts of many. A lot of wonderful things started happening for us. My children’s school helped us with food and Christmas presents for the kids. I received a call from Billy and Tina Hatford. Their family took time out from their holiday schedule to plan a last minute magic show for us with help from other members of The Fellowship of Christian Magicians.  It was marvelous and we will never forget it. On the same day as the magic show I received a call from The House. They told me that some of their listeners had made generous contributions for us. My family and I have truly been blessed. Because of the generosity from everyone, we were able to get all of our bills paid, get some of the things back that we had pawned, and still have some left over to keep us from getting behind while my husband and I get situated at our new jobs.
This was the Christmas we thought that we would not have but we received the most beautiful thing. God blessed us with a miracle and a testimony of how His people can work together to be the body of Christ. Thank you all so much for everything.
Love, Mellaney and family.
Thank you for giving the difference.  This is what matters.

The Wonder of Christmas

As we celebrate the wonder of Christ's birth, it's the most generous gift of hope.
We celebrate eternal salvation.

Matthew 1:23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" - which means, "God with us".

God came to us in the form of a baby.
A baby born in a silent night.
Shouts hope to all the world.
And it makes me wonder.

He could have come with all the trumpets of Heaven.
Jesus came on a silent night, the Prince of Peace.
God's compassion falls, Love has come.
Emmanuel, God is with us.
Hope is born in our hearts.
What a gift of Glory.
Peace comes, a Holy Christmas.

Five Minute Friday - Give

Give it all away
We give of our time, talents, and our finances.  We give blood.  We give thanks at Thanksgiving and at Christmas we give gifts.  We are a giving people. Some people are very generous, some are stingy.  Some just give to impress.  Some give to honor God.

Luke 21:1 tells us one who gave it all.  The poor widow came to give a gift to the temple treasury.  Jesus was there with his disciples watching, as many came to give alms.  The woman simply offered her best, two very small copper coins.  She didn't make a big deal about giving.

From what she had, she gave it all.  She gave it all away.

Luke 21: 4 "All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on."

With it being so small was it significant?  The widow gave it all which is in contrast to the way most of us handle our money.  When you consider the tithe, we are returning a portion of it back to God through the church.  But if we give a certain percentage of our income and consider that a great accomplishment, do we resemble those who gave "out of their great wealth"?

The widow gave, but she gave extravagantly.  That's admirable.  That's honorable.  That's giving an offering.  That's giving like none other.  That's giving like Jesus.  That's giving it all away.

How do you give?

It's Christmas!

As we celebrate the wonder of Christ's birth, let the eternal salvation message permeate our souls.

Matthew 1:23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" - which means, "God with us".

God came to us in the form of a baby.
He sent Love to the cross in the man Jesus
The love that covers our sins is our Hope.
Love in it's purest form was enough then.
Hope has a name and it's Jesus
Immanuel, God is with us.
Hope is born in our hearts.
What a gift of Glory.
This Love is Enough.

Merry Christmas!

Why You Must Think I Am A Scrooge

WARNING....this is an anti-santa claus post.  I am not sad when I write this.  But this really happened.  You have been warned.  (insert your smile here)

You better watch out, You better not cry!  Better not pout, I'm telling you why....Santa Claus is coming to town!  He's making a list, And checking it twice; Gonna find out who's naughty and nice.  Santa Claus is coming to town!

When I was a little girl, I believed in Santa.  My middle name could have been Virginia! I swallowed the Santa-is-coming-to-town-fairy tale like a champ.  I really believed that a fat, white-bearded fellow, magically and wondrously, squeezed his red-suited-self down a chimney that we didn't have, to bring me the toys and bobbles that I had convinced myself I needed.  (That was a really long sentence, you better read it again).  I really believed there was someone who could do that.  I believed my parents when they told me this.  I also thought I believed in God.

So as a young naive girl of eight, when I came face to face with the truth that Santa Claus was just a nice story, I was crushed.  I know...I'm so trusting of some people, that I believe them no matter what they tell me.  My first thought was, upon realization was, "How can this be?  If this story is not true about Santa, then what about the baby Jesus?"  Ouch!

It took me several years to get over my hate for Santa, and but now I think he's just okay.  You can believe the Santa story if you want.  But for me and my family, we know it's just that...a nice holiday story.  I don't decorate with him and I honestly don't think he's that great.  Santa disappoints.

The story of God becoming man in the form of a baby is wonderfully beautiful.  Pause to think about how the Creator of this universe, the Maker of the heavens, the earth and the stars, and you, became man in the form of a perfect innocent baby, born in a lowly, out of the way, stinking stable to be your Savior.  This is a true story that is hard to believe too but God never disappoints.  Come let us adore Him....only.  Read the real Christmas story.

P.S.   For fun....
You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Jesus Christ is coming to town
He's making a list
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out who's naughty and nice
Jesus Christ is coming to town
He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why....Jesus Christ is coming to town...Jesus Christ is coming.
