Trash or Treasure?

This is my old sewing machine. At the time, it was futuristic. It is a Singer Touch Tronic 2010....that was the latest and the best model available. Now it has a broken gear. To get it repaired will cost me $60+. Terry, my husband, says "pitch it". I scream out in anguish about that. There are so many memories connected with it, that I have a hard time letting go of it. Should I repair it and pass it down to my daughter? Is it worth repairing? Is it trash or treasure?

It is probably FAR better made than the ones of todayfix it and give it to your daughterI know she will take good care of it and possibly pass it on for future generations!! I was extremely upset with my mom when she just dumped the sewing machine I told her I wanted, so at least give her the option to dump it herself if she so chooses at some later date.

TREASURE JANELLE! TREASURE!!!
Only $60 to fix it? Fix it!! I have my Mom's sewing machine from the 60's. Yours looks a lot more modern than mine!
And if it's a 2010, you don't want that to mean it's date of death. I've made plenty of Halloween costumes on mine.

What you should do if you're going to trash it is make a completely adoribly scrapbook page about it. Write about all the great times you've had together, and don't forget to add some memorible pictures!

A good quality sewing machine will probably cost you more than $100, and I think it doesn't sound like that much to fix it, so I say it's worth the money to fix it!

FIX IT! That little guy will be a wonderful asset for years to come. And if your daughter decides she no longer needs it there are several mission sewing projects here in Stillwater that would LOVE to have it!

PS. Don't you live around Stillwater? Perry maybe? We are having a bake sale August 30th from 3-7pm at "the coffee house" at the corner of 3rd and Knoblock (near hideaway). All proceeds benefit Share our Strength- an org. committed to ending childhood hunger here in America.

If you haven't heard about "the coffee house" it is an amazing ministry here, I know you would appreciate all we do (and it might give you something cool to talk about on the air!)

Just a thought!

See, I hate to learn a new sewing machine. It was my excuse for never sewing outside of home-ec - I didn't know how to thread my mom's machine and I didn't want to figure it out. So, as a lazy machine-learner, I say keep it as long as you can :) (And I agree with the above, a new one would cost more than $60 and yours doesn't look much less fancy than the one I got new last Christmas!)
