Word Power

Sometimes you come across a word that is really fun but hard to say. Andy introduced this word to me. I had never heard it used in a sentance or a spelling bee. Have you? I rather like saying it though, it makes you sound smart and sophisticated.

The word is ac·cou·tre·ment
Variant(s): or ac·cou·ter·ment \ə-ˈkü-trə-mənt, -ˈkü-tər-mənt\
Function: noun; Date: 1549
1 a: equipment , trappings ; specifically : a soldier's outfit usually not including clothes and weapons —usually used in plural b: an accessory item of clothing or equipment —usually used in plural
2archaic : the act of accoutring
3: an identifying and often superficial characteristic or device —usually used in plural

I am a visual person, so here is a lamp with said accouterments on it. The adornments aka accouterments really dress it up don't they?

What fun new words have you found lately?

"Accoutrement" I've heard of but what's an "accouterment"?
